The 3 lanes of hair restoration, and the one Revive works in

Hair restoration is 3 separate things: medicine for hair that is thinning, cover that hides the scalp, and surgery that relocates hair. Revive 365 Wellness works in the first lane only.

Hair surgeons treat more patients without surgery than with it. In the 2025 Practice Census of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), a worldwide survey that drew 247 member responses, the average member treated 498 non-surgical patients and 156 surgical patients in 2024. That is about 3 non-surgical patients for every surgical one.

Medicine, for follicles that still grow hair

This lane fits a part that keeps getting wider, a crown that shows under bright light, or shedding that won’t settle. The follicles there still produce hair, even if it comes in finer. Prescription medication, scalp microneedling and treatments prepared from your blood act on them. None of it revives a follicle that is gone. For pattern hair loss, the benefit lasts only while treatment continues: finasteride’s label says the gains reverse within 12 months of withdrawal.

Cover, to hide the scalp

Scalp micropigmentation, or SMP, conceals hair loss with permanent pigment placed the way a tattoo is. The dots sit between follicles in a stippled pattern that reads as closely cut hair. A hair system, a hairpiece held on with adhesive or tape, covers the thin area instead. Neither adds hair, and Revive offers neither.

Surgery, to move hair

A transplant harvests follicles from the donor zone on the back of the scalp and implants them where hair has thinned. The scalp is numbed with nerve blocks and local anesthetic. The donor supply is 1 of the main limits on how much hair can move. Revive does not perform transplants.

Signs your first stop is somewhere else

  • The thin area has been smooth scalp for years. Medicine needs living follicles, so the options there are surgery or cover.
  • A small, round balding patch sits in the center of the scalp and is slowly spreading. Per the American Academy of Dermatology, central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA), a common cause of hair loss for Black women, often begins this way. CCCA replaces destroyed follicles with scar tissue, which is why the loss can be permanent, and the AAD says early treatment can keep it from spreading. Get a dermatologist’s diagnosis first, before anyone needles the scalp.
  • You need a visible change within weeks. Medical treatment runs on months, and the men’s 5% minoxidil Drug Facts label lists no regrowth by month 4 as a reason to stop use and ask a doctor.

Revive's hair treatments, with the FDA status of each

A Revive plan opens with the evaluation. From there it can mix prescriptions, scalp microneedling with PRF, exosomes and peptides. The hair restoration in Weston page explains how each works and shows before-and-after results after 2 sessions that combined microneedling, PRF and exosomes. Results vary from person to person. This section covers where each treatment stands with the FDA.

Prescription medication, on-label and off-label

Revive’s providers prescribe hair-loss medication when the evaluation supports it. Pattern hair loss has 2 FDA-approved drug treatments: minoxidil applied to the scalp, and finasteride tablets, which are labeled for men only.

Oral minoxidil is a separate case. The FDA approved the tablet only for high blood pressure that causes symptoms or organ damage and hasn’t responded to maximum doses of a diuretic plus 2 other blood pressure drugs. Its label warns of serious heart effects, including fluid around the heart and worsening angina, and says using the tablet to grow hair is not an approved use. Every hair prescription for it is off-label. Hair surgeons write them anyway: in the ISHRS census, 64.7% of the 176 members who answered said they prescribed oral minoxidil always or often in 2024. Ask whether anything in your plan is off-label before you fill the prescription.

Scalp microneedling with PRF

PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is spun from a sample of your blood during the same visit and goes onto the scalp while the microneedling channels are open. For the facial version of the procedure, see microneedling in Miramar.

2 limits come with it. The PRF hair studies on Revive’s PRF for hair loss page delivered PRF by injection, so their results don’t carry over to PRF applied over microneedling. The pen has limits of its own. FDA authorization for microneedling devices covers 3 uses in people 22 and older: facial wrinkles, facial acne scars and abdominal scars. The same FDA page says the devices aren’t approved as a way to deliver drugs or blood products. Microneedling the scalp with PRF falls outside both.

Exosome add-ons

Exosomes are an add-on during microneedling. No exosome product holds FDA approval, for hair or anything else. The FDA’s public safety notification on exosomes says so, and it explains that exosomes used to treat diseases and conditions are regulated as drugs and biological products that need FDA review and approval before they are sold. The notice was issued after patients in Nebraska had serious adverse events following treatment with unapproved products sold as containing exosomes. Before exosomes go into a plan, your provider covers the current evidence, where the product comes from and what to expect.

Compounded peptides

Compounded peptides can join a hair plan. Revive’s peptides come from 503(a) compounding pharmacies regulated by the state, and no compounded drug carries FDA approval. More on peptide therapy for Miramar patients.

Aftercare in Miramar's heat and UV

For the first days after scalp microneedling, treated skin needs protection from sun, sweat and heat, and a Miramar summer brings all 3.

The National Weather Service office in Miami reported that Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport had its hottest summer on record in 2026. It averaged 85.3 degrees, with 78 days at or above 90 against a normal of 49. Miami International tied 2023 for its hottest summer and logged 83 days at or above 90, against a normal of 64. The same NWS summary puts the end of the rainy season at October 15.

We also tallied the National Weather Service’s daily UV Index forecasts for Miami covering June 1 to August 31, 2026. 86 of the 92 days were forecast at 8 or higher, the range the EPA labels Very High to Extreme. 56 days were forecast at 11 or higher.

Revive’s microneedling aftercare sets these windows. Ask your provider which of them apply to a scalp session.

  • Stay out of direct sunlight for a week. Treated skin remains sensitive to sun for 7 to 14 days.
  • Hold off on sunscreen over the treated skin for 24 hours. After that, use a mineral formula with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, SPF 30 or higher, reapplied every 2 hours outdoors.
  • Sweat as little as you can for 3 days after the session, and stay out of hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms.
  • No swimming in a pool, the ocean or a lake for at least 72 hours.

If you work outdoors, book sessions so the first 3 days fall on days you can stay out of the heat, and plan shade for the rest of that week.

How long is the drive from Miramar to Revive 365 Wellness?

About 18 to 19 minutes from west and central Miramar with no traffic, mostly on I-75 to Exit 15. Allow about 25 minutes from Miramar Parkway at University Drive, and 28 to 29 from Miramar Parkway at State Road 7. The address is 1310 SW 160 Ave, Weston, FL 33326.

Which appointments need the drive to Weston?

Microneedling sessions and the blood draw for PRF happen in the office. Revive also offers telehealth appointments. Ask which of your visits can use them.

Does Revive perform hair transplants, SMP or hair systems?

No to all 3. Treatment here is non-surgical, and a patient who needs grafts is referred to a surgeon.

Does the FDA approve PRF, exosomes or scalp microneedling for hair loss?

No. PRF has no FDA approval for hair loss, so scalp use is off-label. Exosomes: none has FDA approval for any use. Microneedling devices are authorized for facial wrinkles, facial acne scars and abdominal scars, and the scalp is not on that list. Pattern hair loss has 2 FDA-approved drugs: topical minoxidil and finasteride.

What side effects should I know about?

They depend on the treatment.

  • Finasteride: in its clinical trials, decreased libido was reported by 1.8% of men on the drug against 1.3% on placebo, erectile dysfunction by 1.3% against 0.7%, and ejaculation disorder by 1.2% against 0.7%. Reports made after approval, listed on the label, include depression, suicidal ideation and behavior, male infertility, and sexual dysfunction that continued after the drug was stopped. The label also warns that drugs in its class may raise the risk of high-grade prostate cancer, and that pregnant women, or women who could be pregnant, should avoid handling crushed or broken tablets.
  • Topical minoxidil: under “stop use,” the men’s 5% label names chest pain, a rapid heartbeat, faintness or dizziness, sudden unexplained weight gain, swollen hands or feet, scalp irritation or redness, and unwanted facial hair.
  • Microneedling: the FDA lists redness, itching, bruising and bleeding among the common risks, and infection and pigment changes among the less common ones.

How long does redness last after a scalp session?

Plan on a day or 2 of redness after a session with PRF. The aftercare windows above start the same day.
