The 4 things "non surgical hair transplant" can mean

One question sorts every hair loss product on the market: does it need a living follicle to work?

Answer that and you know which category you are shopping in, what it can deliver, and what happens when you stop.

Regrow, the treatments that support follicles you still have

This is topical minoxidil, finasteride, PRF, microneedling, laser caps and peptides. All of it depends on a follicle that is still alive, even if it has thinned. Nothing here is surgery and nothing here is fast. The best it can deliver is a denser version of the hair you already have, and the effect lasts only as long as you keep going. The approved labels are explicit about that, and there is a section on it further down this page.

Revive 365 Wellness works in this category.

Move, a surgical hair transplant

FUE and FUT both relocate living follicles from a donor area to a thinning one. It is surgery. It also happens to be the only option in this list that redistributes hair permanently, because a transplanted graft stays where it is put.

Revive 365 Wellness does not perform hair transplants.

Cover, scalp micropigmentation

Pigment deposited into the scalp to read as closely cropped stubble. No follicle required, because nothing is being grown. It suits people who want the look of a shaved or very short cut rather than length. The pigment needs periodic renewal.

Revive 365 Wellness does not perform scalp micropigmentation.

Wear, a hair system

A unit, topper or system that attaches hair which is not growing out of your scalp. No follicle required. It is the only option here that delivers any density you want on the same day, and the only one where the coverage is gone the moment you take it off. Maintenance is the product.

Revive 365 Wellness does not fit hair systems.

Two things that follow from the sort

Waking a follicle requires a follicle. If the follicles are gone in the area that bothers you, nothing in the Regrow category brings them back, however it is packaged.

And nothing in the Regrow category is quick. The fastest timeline stated in any FDA-approved label here is 2 months, and that is the earliest point at which results may appear, not the point at which they do.

What is approved for women, and what is not

Topical minoxidil 5% foam is the only FDA-approved drug for pattern hair loss in women. Finasteride is not approved for women at all.

The Propecia label states that the drug is “indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in MEN ONLY”, and that it “is not indicated for use in women.” It goes further than a caution. Finasteride is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant, and the label warns that women should not handle crushed or broken tablets because of the potential risk to a male fetus.

The approved option for women is minoxidil 5% foam, applied once daily. Its label sets the expectation honestly: results may occur at 3 months, and some women need 6 months of daily use before anything is visible.

One line in that label deserves more attention than it gets. Among the conditions under which the women’s 5% foam should not be used, the label lists “your hair loss is associated with childbirth”.

Postpartum shedding is one of the most common reasons women start looking for treatment, and the most widely recommended over-the-counter product in the category tells them not to use it. That is not because postpartum shedding is untreatable. It is because postpartum shedding is usually a different condition with a different course, and it needs identifying rather than covering with the wrong product.

If your shedding started after a pregnancy, an illness, a rapid weight change, or a new medication, the first useful step is working out which condition you have.

When this is the wrong thing to buy

We are not the right clinic for you if:

  • You want visible change in under 3 months. The fastest approved label in this category says results may occur at 2 months with twice-daily use, and that some men need 4 months. The women’s foam says results may occur at 3 months, and some women need 6.
  • The follicles are gone where it matters to you. Pigment or a hair system will get you closer to what you are picturing, and we will say so rather than sell you a series.
  • You want a single treatment and no follow-up. No treatment in this category works that way.
  • You are not willing to keep going. See the section above. The labels are unambiguous on this.

And a limit that applies whichever clinic you choose: not everyone responds. Response varies by cause, by stage, and by how consistent you are, and no clinic can identify in advance which patients will not respond. Anyone guaranteeing your result is guaranteeing something they cannot know.

8 questions to ask any Weston clinic before you commit

ring these to us. Bring them everywhere else too.

  1. Which of the 4 categories is this? Follicle biology, surgery, pigment, or a wearable?
  2. Is each item in my plan FDA-approved for hair loss, cleared as a device, prescribed off-label, or compounded? I want that list itemized.
  3. For any device clearance you advertise: what is the exact cleared indication, and does it name the scalp?
  4. For any exosome or stem cell product: what is its regulatory status, and do you hold an IND?
  5. For finasteride: how do you screen mood before prescribing, and what is the instruction for stopping?
  6. What will you photograph, and will you show me the earlier photograph beside the later one?
  7. At what point do you tell me it is not working?
  8. If the follicles are gone where I care about, will you refer me out?

A clinic that answers questions 2 and 3 without hedging has read its own paperwork. That is a low bar, and it filters more of this market than it should.

Frequently Asked Questions

What has the FDA approved for hair loss?

Two drugs. Topical minoxidil, in separate formulations for men and for women, and finasteride 1mg, which is approved for men only. PRF, microneedling, laser caps and exosomes are not FDA-approved treatments for hair loss. Some of the devices involved carry 510(k) clearance, which is a different and narrower thing.

Does “FDA-cleared” mean the treatment works on my hair?

Not on its own. Clearance means a device was shown to be substantially equivalent to a device already on the market, for that device’s stated indication. Some laser devices are cleared to promote hair growth, but with narrow limits on sex, stage of hair loss and skin type. Microneedling devices are cleared for facial acne scars, facial wrinkles and abdominal scars, not for the scalp. Ask which exact indication the clearance covers, and whether yours matches it.

Can women take finasteride?

It is not approved for women. The label reads “in MEN ONLY” and states the drug is not indicated for use in women, with a contraindication in women who are or may become pregnant. The approved option for women is topical minoxidil 5% foam.

Why does the women’s minoxidil label say not to use it after childbirth?

Because postpartum shedding is usually a different condition from pattern hair loss, with a different course. The label lists hair loss associated with childbirth among its do-not-use conditions. It needs identifying rather than treating with the wrong product.

How long before I see anything?

The approved labels set the expectation. Minoxidil for men: results may occur at 2 months, and some men need 4. Minoxidil foam for women: results may occur at 3 months, and some women need 6. Finasteride: daily use for 3 months or more is generally needed before benefit is observed.

What happens if I stop?

You lose the gains. The finasteride label states that withdrawal leads to reversal of effect within 12 months. The minoxidil labels state that hair loss will begin again and that continued use is necessary to keep regrowth.

Do you offer transplants or scalp micropigmentation?

No. We work in the first category only. If your evaluation points to one of the other 3, we will tell you.
