Botox softens the lines that come from movement: frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead creases, and the vertical neck bands the FDA cleared in 2024. At our Davie-area suite, a licensed medical provider places every unit against your goal and your muscle strength. Most people see the change in 3 to 5 days, and it holds for about 3 to 4 months.

What Botox is, and what the FDA actually approved

Botox is botulinum toxin type A. It relaxes the specific muscle it is injected into, so the skin above that muscle creases less.

The FDA has approved Botox Cosmetic for four facial areas: frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and, since October 2024, the vertical neck bands called platysma bands. Everything else you hear about, jaw slimming with masseter Botox, a lip flip, a gummy smile, bunny lines, microdroplet skin treatments, sits in off-label territory.

Off-label means a provider is using an approved medicine in a spot the FDA has not formally reviewed for that use. It is legal, it is common across all of medicine, and for areas like the masseter it is backed by years of published use. You still deserve to be told which is which before a needle touches you. We tell you every time. A clinic that blurs that line is hiding the one fact that helps you give real consent.

Our method: the Movement-First Map

We map your face in motion before we touch a needle. We call it the Movement-First Map, and it is four steps.

  1. Expression audit. We watch you frown, smile, raise your brows, and squint, at rest and at full force. Lines hide until the muscle fires, so a still face tells us almost nothing.
  2. Strength grading. We grade each muscle’s pull. A strong frown and a soft one do not take the same dose, and guessing is how people end up uneven.
  3. Dose to the goal, not the area. We set units against what you want, soften versus nearly stop, instead of a fixed per-area number copied off a chart.
  4. Two-week review. We bring you back at 14 days to check symmetry and top up any muscle that needed more. That visit is the difference between a result and a regret.

Masseter Botox: jaw slimming and jaw pain are two different doses

The same jaw muscle, two goals, two very different unit counts. Most pages lump them together, and that is where expectations break.

Aesthetic slimming

  • About 15 to 30 units per side
  • The goal is a softer, slimmer lower face. Slimming builds over 6 to 12 weeks as the muscle shrinks from less use, so this is not a same-week change.

Jaw tension, clenching, bruxism, TMJ pain

  • About 25 to 50 units per side, sometimes more
  • Relief depends on quieting the clenching force, so a strong jaw needs more. Many people feel the tension ease in 2 to 3 weeks.

Masseter Botox is off-label. It is also one of the most predictable off-label uses there is. If you have both a wide jaw and real pain, say so at the consult, because the plan and the unit count change.

The migraine and insurance angle most Botox pages skip

If you get 15 or more headache days a month, Botox for chronic migraine is FDA-approved, and insurance often pays for it.

Botox earned its chronic-migraine approval in 2010. The bar is specific: 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting 4 hours or longer, for at least three months, with 8 or more of those days being migraine. The protocol is fixed, not freehand: 155 to 195 units placed across 31 to 39 sites in the head and neck, repeated every 12 weeks. It is preventive, not a rescue shot. It cuts how often migraines hit and often how hard, but it will not stop one already in progress.

Coverage is where it gets practical. Medicare Part B generally covers chronic-migraine Botox when it is medically necessary and documented. Florida Medicaid often covers it with prior authorization. Commercial plans usually want proof that you tried and failed two preventive medications first. Jaw and TMJ coverage is harder, many plans exclude it, so plan to ask your carrier directly before you assume anything.

This is the conversation a cosmetic-only page never has with you. If headaches are running your life, that changes which door you should walk through, and we will help you find the right one.

What to expect: onset, results, aftercare, and the honest risks

Expect a few tiny pinches over a few minutes, then back to your day. There is no downtime.

Results start in 3 to 5 days and reach full effect at about 14 days. Cosmetic results last roughly 3 to 4 months, longer with Daxxify, and masseter slimming builds more slowly than forehead lines do. Aftercare is simple: stay upright for about 4 hours, skip hard exercise, heat, and lying flat that day, and do not rub the treated area.

Most side effects are mild and short: a small bruise, a temporary headache, and rarely a drooping lid or brow if product migrates. The FDA label carries a boxed warning that, very rarely, botulinum toxin effects can spread beyond the injection site. Serious spread has been tied to high therapeutic doses far above cosmetic amounts. If you ever have trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing after any botulinum toxin, get medical care right away.

Who we say no to

Botox is not right for everyone, and we would rather tell you up front than take the booking.

  • Pregnant or nursing. We wait.
  • A neuromuscular condition like myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome. Not a candidate.
  • An active skin infection at the injection site. We reschedule.
  • A goal that needs volume, not muscle relaxing. Deep folds and lost cheek structure call for filler, and we will say so instead of overselling Botox.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Botox hurt?

A few quick pinches with a fine needle. Most people rate it low and skip numbing. The visit runs about 15 to 30 minutes.

Will I look frozen?

Not when it is dosed to your movement. We dose to soften, then review at two weeks. Frozen comes from too much product in the wrong muscle, not from Botox itself.

How much does Botox cost in Davie?

It is priced per unit, and your number depends on the area and how strong the muscle is, so we quote it at the consult after we watch your face move. A frown and a clenched jaw are not the same job, which is why a flat online price would mislead you.

How long until I see results, and how long does it last?

3 to 5 days to start, full at about two weeks, and roughly 3 to 4 months for most areas. Daxxify lasts longer, a median of about 6 months.

Is Botox safe?

It is one of the most studied injectables and has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002. Risks are mostly mild and short when a trained medical provider injects it.

How do I choose an injector in Broward County?

Ask who is actually holding the needle and their credentials. Ask to see their own before and after photos, not stock images. Make sure it is a real medical setting with physician oversight. Rock-bottom per-unit pricing and package pressure are red flags.

We believe even small changes can make a big difference in how you feel. Our goal is to help you face each day with confidence, looking and feeling like your best self.
